POSITIVE REVIEW FOR DARKEST DUNGEON
Laughing at the people calling the game too hard like. Friend. It's the POINT.
You know what this game was designed to do? Crush you. Break you. But the real joy comes from spitting in the game's eye, telling it, no, ♥♥♥♥ YOU. Getting back up every time you're knocked to the ground. Yeah, the rng can easily ruin your day, your party, your hero that you built up. But you know what? Sometimes life deals you a bad hand. What matters is how you handle it. How you adapt to the way life ♥♥♥♥ed you.
This is not a game that's supposed to make you feel good, or like you're good at video games, or that everything will be alright as long as you believe in the power of friendship. It's a game that makes you feel like you can take whatever life throws at you, no matter how much it sucks in the moment, because you know how to cope with unfair ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. Bring it, life.
NEGATIVE REVIEW FOR DARKEST DUNGEON
Great art style and audio, with some really interesting content ideas. But for me the complete reliance on RNG instead of actual balanced and challenging game-play took all the fun out of it. Too often it is a cake walk or other times it leads to failure with nothing the player doing affecting the outcome. You will fail and be forced to start many characters over time and again all due to some suspiciously bad RNG that you can do nothing about. The game doesn't out play you, or provide new challenges for you to adapt to and overcome. Instead turn order and a slew of misses or crits will decide things either for or against you, none of which the player has any control over.
Everything is random so nothing can really be planned out and instead the player is playing catch up when things go bad, and they always do. This can be fun for a while, but the random initiative order every round and not knowing who goes when makes tactics next to impossible and leads to rage inducing deaths of your good adventurers simply because the enemy gets to all go twice before your healers can act. The RNG reliance also takes away options in both party composition and what skills to equip, which is really a shame because some of them looked fun to try the one time out of 10 that it might work out for you.
The game-play felt oppressive and limiting because of this. It may have been the goal in keeping with the setting, but endless grinding of the same content only to be screwed out of success, almost always, isn't my idea of a good time. I can see a small core group of players loving this game, but for most I would urge them to stay away and just watch the salt filled twitch stream out there instead.
well, that's all I can say about Darkest Dungeon, and if you like this game you can buy it here http://store.steampowered.com/app/262060/
